Floyd Ranked No. 27 Among Top 100 Best Places to Work in Healthcare

The 2,100 employees at Floyd Medical Center and its affiliates have earned the health care provider a ranking of No. 27 on Modern Healthcare magazine’s list of the Top 100 Best Places to Work in Healthcare.

The magazine published the list in an October 27 special supplement that also recognizes the top places by industry segment and number of employees.

“Several years ago we cast a vision for Floyd to become the healthcare Employer of Choice in our region, and we’ve seen the results,” said Kurt Stuenkel, Floyd president and CEO. “This recognition is much appreciated and signals to us that we are making great progress.

Modern Healthcare partnered with Best Companies Group, a Pennsylvania-based firm that administers “best places to work” programs nationwide, to recognize outstanding employers in the healthcare industry on a national level. Almost 240 healthcare companies participated in the inaugural survey process that resulted in this first-ever healthcare workplace listing.

Rankings are based on responses to two surveys. Employers were asked to provide detailed information about demographics, compensation, environment and benefits. A random sample of 350 Floyd employees was asked to answer questions in 8 core areas: leadership and planning, culture and communications, role satisfaction, working environment, relationship with supervisor, training and development, pay and benefits and overall satisfaction.

“Our 27th ranking is especially encouraging because it is based on our employees’ responses. It is a remarkable recognition,” Stuenkel said. “We are proud that Floyd is a nationally renowned place of employment.”

“The healthcare environment today and in the future is characterized not just by shrinking margins; increasing regulations; new technologies; increasing consumerism; patient empowerment; autonomy and competition; but also by staffing shortage challenges and a heightened appreciation for the quality of the workplace,” said Fawn Lopez, Publisher of Modern Healthcare. “Modern Healthcare’s Best Places to Work in Healthcare” program identifies and recognizes healthcare organizations that have successfully built workplace excellence and enabled employees to perform at their optimal level. By sharing the best practices and innovations in the workplace settings, we hope to enable others to develop progressive human resources strategies critical to creating and sustaining the best healthcare system for patients.”
